Dear Jim,

27th GJKT LogoThe GJKT is proud to announce a new format and prize structure for 2007.

The GJKT now has two boat classifications, 23 Class and Ultra Class. All Boats will compete for one of three "Big Fish" prizes and each boat will also compete in one of two divisions based upon the Length Over All (L.O.A.) of the boat as stated on the boat's state registration. Boats not registered by a state government agency may be subject to a physical examination by the GJKT Rules Committee. Boats must fish in the division that is defined by the L.O.A. or examination. A boat will compete in the 23 Class so long as the L.O.A. of the boat does not exceed 23 feet 11 inches. A boat will compete in the Ultra Class so long as the L.O.A. of the boat is 24 feet or greater.   Boat classification changes may only be made prior to the start of fishing on the first day.

In addition to Big Fish prizes, the Ultra and 23 Classes will be competing in an aggregate format, which is designed to reward skill as well as luck. Boats are allowed to weigh one fish per day and the total aggregate weight over the two days of fishing will determine the winners. Boats competing in either division can win the Big Fish portion of the prize structure. This change is intended to keep the anglers more aggressive on the second day and keep the drama going until the end of weigh-in on Friday. Boats may only win one prize in these divisions. If a boat places in more than one category, it will automatically be sorted to the position of greatest value. In any circumstances, only one prize will be awarded.
